Enigma : how the Poles broke the Nazi code / Wladyslaw Kozaczuk ; Jerzy Straszak

by Wladyslaw Kozaczuk, Jerzy Straszak

This concise history details how Polish mathematicians broke the German Enigma cipher in 1933. It explores how sharing this vital intelligence with Britain and France in 1939 laid the foundations for the Allied codebreaking successes at Bletchley Park.

brief_description
In 1933, three Polish mathematicians led by Marian Rejewski succeeded in breaking the German Enigma cipher, which the Germans considered unbreakable. In 1939, just before the outbreak of war, the Poles shared their knowledge with French and British intelligence services. This led to the powerful British decoding operation at Bletchley Park, which supplied vital intelligence known as Ultra to the allied forces. Yet, only recently have the Polish codebreakers received international recognition. -- blurb
