A first comprehensive overview of forty years of video art in Germany provides a panorama of seminal artworks produced in Germany that have shaped one of the most prominent genres of twentieth-century art and includes examples ranging from the 1960s to works produced as recently as 2004. This overview features pioneers of the early years as well as an exemplary selection of younger artists, presenting a variety of formats and artistic strategies. The entire project thus deals with issues related to the preservation, presentation, and sustainability of what is referred to as our digital heritage. The ZKM I Center for Art and Media has plans for a second part to this project, which will be devoted specifically to recent findings.
