Synopsis: Twenty international artists investigate the role of destruction in contemporary art—from a creative act to a memento mori of the environment, from prosperity trash to a poetic transformation. About the Author: Boris Groys is Professor of Russian and Slavic Studies at New York University. He is the author of many books, including "Ilya Kabakov: The Man Who Flew into Space from His Apartment" (2006) and "Art Power" (2008), both published by the MIT Press. Martin Herbert is a writer and critic based in Berlin. He writes regularly for Artforum, frieze, and Art Monthly, among others, and is Associate Editor of ArtReview. His essays have been published in catalogues for institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, Tate Britain, the Hayward Gallery, and the Serpentine Gallery. He has lectured in art schools internationally, and currently serves on the acquisitions committee for Arts Council England. His monograph on Mark Wallinger was published by Thames & Hudson in 2011; a book of essays, The Uncertainty Principle, was published by Sternberg Press in 2014. Award-winning artist Chris Sharp has been writing and illustrating children's books and related materials in both the trade and liturgical markets for over 20 years.
